CivicShift Designs · The Town of Example
See it working before you build it.
Short videos of a fictional Alberta town run on one connected system, in the Microsoft 365 it already owns. Each one starts with a real obligation and shows the design that meets it as part of everyday work.
I lead…
Start with your part of the work
Three designs for each role. Every one connects to the others, because it is one town and one source of truth.

How the Town is built
The groundwork every other design stands on: roles, records, authority and par.

My Part, No More, No Less
One change, four desks: each person sees exactly their part of the work.

One Library for Everything
Every policy, form and record in one library, each with an owner and a review date.
People and safety
Safety, training, wellbeing and the workforce of the future.

Nobody Left Behind
From a position's hazards to a person's training plan, updated once for everyone it affects.

Safe in Mind Too
Psychological safety: workload signals at team level, speaking up, and complaints handled under lock.

Before the Retirement Wave
Succession: knowledge kept, progression recorded, and a bench ready before the posting.

One Table: Leading Together
Labour and management on one hub: agreed measures, early resolution and shared commitments.
Money and assets
Budgets, spending authority, procurement and the life of an asset.

The Budget That Builds Itself
The annual budget built from the bottom up, from supervisor requests to the C.A.O.'s final review.

From Budget to the Work
The approved budget turned into programs, tasks and triggers, then planned against accomplished.

Every Dollar Has an Owner
An aerial ladder replacement, from a three-year trigger to commissioning, with every approval on record.
Council and governance
Council decisions and privacy, from the record.
Residents and public service
What residents see, ask for and rely on.

The Service Portal of the Future
One front door for residents: pre-filled permits, privacy on every form, alerts, in English or French.

What the Public Sees
One public window: a rule behind every number, and nothing that exposes a person.

The Permit, Start to Finish
A special event permit from a pre-filled application to parallel reviews and event day.
Coming soonFair for Both Neighbours
A bylaw complaint handled consistently: the complainant protected, education first, decisions within par.
Emergencies and essential services
When the call comes in, and when the water has to be safe.

When the E.O.C. Opens
An ice storm: incident command roles, logistics and every decision logged as it happens.

Ready When the Call Comes In
Paid-on-call firefighters: one person, two positions, and readiness anyone can see.

Water You Can Trust
Low chlorine to a lifted boil water advisory, with the right people told first.
How these designs are made
Realistic, never real
The Town of Example, its people and its records are invented. The obligations are real: each design cites the law or standard it answers, as read when it was made.
Designs are demonstrations, not legal or professional advice. Figures are illustrative.
The rules in every design
- No A.I. on personal information
- Anything drafted by the system is reviewed by a person before it is sent
- Each role sees only what it needs
- Built on Microsoft 365 and Power Platform tools an organization already owns
